Election
Nominations for the election of four registered podiatrists to the Podiatry Board of South Australia closed at 12noon on Wednesday 1 July 2009. At that time the Returning Officer had received four nominations for the four positions. Therefore in accordance with Election Regulations, the Returning Officer declared the following nominated persons to be elected the Podiatry Board of South Australia:

  • Catherine Jane Loughry
  • Rolf Wilhelm Scharfbillig
  • Ryan Scott Causby
  • Fraser Warrick


    National Registration
    On 12 June 2009 the Australian Health Workforce Ministerial Council released the exposure draft of the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law 2009 (“Bill B”). This Bill sets out the legal framework for the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme for health professions in Australia which is to commence from 1 July 2010.

    The exposure draft, along with other relevant documents, is available from the National Health Workforce Taskforce website at: http://www.nhwt.gov.au/natreg.asp.

    The Ministerial Council has invited comments from the public, health practitioners and other stakeholders in response to the exposure draft. Written submissions should be sent in electronic form to the National Registration and Accreditation Implementation Project at nraip@dhs.vic.gov.au by 17 July 2009

    The Bill is expected to be introduced in the Queensland Parliament later this year. Once the legislation is passed in Queensland draft legislation will be introduced in all State Parliaments in order to adopt the new National Law.

    Welcome to the Podiatry Board of South Australia

    The Podiatry Board of South Australia (the Board) is the statutory authority in South Australia responsible to Parliament for the administration of the Podiatry Practice Act 2005, which is an Act to protect the health and safety of the public by providing for the registration of podiatrists and podiatry students; to regulate the provision of podiatric treatment for the purpose of maintaining high standards of competence and conduct by those who provide it; to repeal the Chiropodists Act 1950; and for other purposes.

    This is achieved by:
    • ensuring that persons applying for registration:
      -   have the necessary recognised tertiary qualifications;
      -   are fit and proper;
      -   are medically fit;
      -   are competent to safely practice;
    • maintaining appropriate registers;
    • ensuring that registered persons:
      -   are fit and proper;
      -   maintain high standards of competence and conduct;
    • approving courses of education and training that provide qualifications for registration;
    • establishing benchmarks for practice through endorsing/preparing standards of conduct and practice, and guidelines on continuing professional development;
    • investigating complaints about a registrant's or service provider's conduct, competence or capacity, and taking the necessary disciplinary or remedial action;
    • preventing or restricting the practice by unregistered or unqualified persons;
    • the investigation and prosecution of summary offences under the Act or Regulations.
